Why DRM in Games is Bad

Today, I want to talk about DRM in video games. DRM means "Digital Rights Management". Many companies use DRM to stop people from copying games. But in real life, DRM is making problems for players. First, DRM makes games run worse. When we play games with heavy DRM, the FPS (frames per second) goes down. This means games are not smooth and sometimes even freeze. A lot of gamers buy strong computers but still they can't play good because of DRM. It is very frustating. We pay money but we get bad performance. Second, DRM needs internet all the time. Some games not let you play if you are not online. Even single player games, which should not need internet, ask for connection. What if my internet is bad? What if I want to play on a trip? DRM makes it impossible. We should be free to play the games we buy anytime we want. Another problem is DRM can stop working in future. Maybe company closes servers. Then, even if you buy the game, you can't play anymore. This is very unfair. A game you buy should be yours forever. There are good alternatives. GOG.com is a great website. Games from GOG are DRM-free. This means you download the game and you can play it anytime, without internet, without any extra program. It feels much better and safe. I think companies should trust players more. Not every gamer is a pirate. Many people just want to buy games and enjoy them. DRM is not stopping pirates anyway. Many cracked versions of games are online, sometimes faster than official games. In the end, DRM is hurting the honest players more than helping companies. We should support DRM-free games and platforms like GOG. When we support DRM-free, maybe one day big companies will understand and stop using bad DRM systems.
Thank you for reading!
