DLSS, FSR and Frame Generation: Are They Good or Bad for Games?

Today I want to talk about some new technologies in gaming: DLSS, FSR and Frame Generation. These are very cool tools made by Nvidia and AMD. DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) help to make games run faster and look better by using smart upscaling. Frame Generation is another tool that create new frames to make the game feel smoother. At first, I think these are very good ideas. DLSS and FSR lets you play heavy games even if your computer is not very strong. You can enjoy high quality graphics and high FPS together. Frame Generation also makes the games feel more smooth, like magic. One great example is Red Dead Redemption 2. This game came before DLSS and FSR were popular, but still it is super optimized. It looks amazing and runs good on many different systems. When they added DLSS later, it became even better without losing quality. This shows how a game can be good with and without these technologies. But now, I see a problem. Because of DLSS, FSR and Frame Generation, many game developers are becoming lazy. They don’t try to optimize games well anymore. They know players can just turn on DLSS or FSR to fix bad performance. So, they don't care so much about making games run good at native resolution. A bad example is The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. This game had terrible performance at launch. Even strong PCs couldn’t run it well without DLSS or FSR. The graphics were not very good, but the game still needed upscaling to work ok. This is not how it should be. Developers should optimize games first, then add DLSS and FSR for extra help. In my opinion, DLSS, FSR and Frame Generation are great tools. But they should be used to make good games even better, not to fix lazy development. If developers only depend on these technologies, games will have more bugs and bad performance in the future. I hope in the future, developers will focus on making games work good first. DLSS, FSR and Frame Generation should stay like a bonus, not the main solution. Players deserve games that are well made, not games that only look good because of smart tricks.
